The Commission's Mission

The Commission for Women (CFW) is the premier facilitator and advocate for women's issues in Riverside County. Through our networks with other commissions and women's groups throughout the county, state and region, the Commission projects our voice and advocates for support and change on behalf of all women in this County.

The Commission's History

In 1976 the County of Riverside Board of Supervisors established a temporary Committee on the Status of Women.

In 1978 the Committee on the Status of Women becomes a permanent Committee.

In 1983 the Committee was elevated to commission status.

In 1987 the name was modernized from Commission on the Status of Women to its current title of the Commission for Women.

In 2008 the Commission for Women held it's first Legislative Forum (public hearing) at the Board of Supervisors Chambers on issues pertaining to women and children in Riverside.

In 2008 the Commission established the annual Woman of the Year award.

In 2009 the Commission for Women held the 1st Mothers' & Daughters Wellness Symposium.

In 2011 the Commission for Women held the Breast Cancer Awareness Forum.

In 2012 the Commission for Women held the Anti-Human Trafficking Community Awareness Forum.
